A 3-1 win away to DLR Waves on Wednesday night. What did you think of the performance?
I wasn’t overly happy with the first-half performance, though we probably dominated the majority of the game and were the only ones really creating any chances. We never really got out of second gear in that first half. In the second half, we upped it a little bit and again we created more chances. It was nice to finish some of them but we need to work on being able to convert more of those chances.
It was fantastic for Tiegan Ruddy to score a goal on her first senior start. Could she be one to watch next season?
She’s had to be very patient for her slot in the squad because there’s an awful lot of competition in the middle of the park, where she prefers to play. We have Melissa, Aoife, Scarlett, and Maria back as well. It’s good for Tiegan to finally get her chance and it’s nice when you top it off with a goal.
And two of our more experienced players made a difference as Savannah was Player of the Match and Stephanie Zambra bagged a brace…
Sav was really good the other night. Really good quality and attention to detail. She played with a lot of hunger and she has that bit of experience that’s very hard to come across in this league. Also, for Steph, she’s probably had a rough run the last couple of weeks where things weren’t really going her way in front of goal so it’s nice for her to come off the bench and grab two.
Treaty United lost to Galway in their last game to make it nine defeats in a row so they’re on a bad run. The game is on TG4 so they’ll want to put on a good performance, while we know that two wins guarantees us second place in the league. What are you expecting from them on Saturday?
I think they’re going to be very similar to the game we had on Wednesday where they’ll defend in a low block and try and hit us on the counterattack. We conceded a goal to DLR Waves on a counterattack, on a quick break so we’re going to have to be wary of it and cut it out. That’s how Treaty scored against Peamount as well, they’re all counterattacks and it comes as a shock so it’s stuff that we’re going to have to be set up to deal with. Even when we’re comfortable in possession, we’ll have to be able to spot danger quickly and cut it out.
Four of the girls are back from the Ireland Under-19s. Did any new injuries come out of Wednesday night?
Thankfully there are no injuries, and we have a fully fit squad to choose from. All the players came back from the Irish camp fully fit and available for selection so there’s great competition for places for the last two games.
