An injury-time own goal rescued a point in Wexford last time out. Was it the least we deserved on the day?

Yes, I think the stats showed that. We had 18 attempts on goal and Wexford only had 3. I think that shows how the game went. It’s one of those things, even with 18 attempts on goal, our finishing was quite poor on the night so there’s a little bit of work there to be done.

You made a few changes for the game including Maria Reynolds, making her first appearance for the senior team after 14 months out injured. Was she delighted to be back out there?

She was delighted. For the group and the team as a whole, it’s great to have her back on the pitch. She worked extremely hard and had setback after setback but she kept on going. Hard work really does pay off, if you do all that graft you get that reward of being able to get back out onto that pitch.

And Maria was one of a number of players in your squad to receive their medals for the Under-19s side who were crowned champions. Shannon Coady finished top goalscorer in the league. How impressive were they this year?

They’ve been very good. A good chunk of the squad has been training with us and playing regularly with us. You have Shannon, Abby, Orlaith, Jayne, Maria and Alannah Prizeman as well so it’s great for them to get into the habit of picking up medals. There was great work done by Wayne and Barry to be able to get that league title because there’s good competition in that 19s age bracket.

DLR Waves are in eighth place, having lost their last five league games but they did put three goals past Rovers in the reverse fixture in May. What do you make of them at the moment?

I think they’re in kind of a transition period where they’ve lost a good few players. Their strengths, what killed us the last time was the counterattacks which is something that we’re going to have to be well aware of and deal with it. They’re young and hungry and they have absolutely nothing to lose, so for us, it’s about trying to do our work properly and make sure that we convert some of those chances that we create, rather than having only 2 shots on target in 18 chances created like in Wexford.

Which players will be unavailable for the game with injury and international duty?

There’s a chunk of the squad unavailable because they were away with the Ireland Under 19s in Belgium and didn’t get back until Tuesday evening. Lia, Aoife, Joy and Jayne will all be out but other than that, we have got a full team to pick from.
