Did that feel like another big win over more Dublin rivals, and it continued our momentum?

“It’s another good win. We obviously have a lot of Dublin derbies this year and they add a different dimension to the game in terms of intensity. The players have dealt with them really well so far and Friday was another one that we came out on top in, which was good.”

The only first-half chance from either side was Alan’s good save from Eoin Doyle. We had most of the ball but that showed that Pat’s were dangerous on the break?

“I thought in the first half we had most of the ball but for the first 30 odd minutes we didn’t hurt them enough really. They got their chance in that period but after that, I thought we controlled the game and we hurt them a lot more. “

So you felt the second half was much better from the team in terms of opening up the Pat’s defence?

“Yes, we had a look at one or two things at half-time and after that, the players were really good in terms of opening them up and maybe could have made more of our chances when we got into the final third.”

Danny Mandroiu put in a super cross for Rory Gaffney to head home, how good a goal was that to win it?

“It’s a really good goal. It’s a good header from Rory, he doesn’t give the keeper a chance. And the ball from Danny is very high quality. It’s not really a cross, it’s more of a pass, so it’s a really good goal all round.”

There were a few more half-chances to try and clinch it but how important was it at the other end to defend well and see out the game?

“It was really important. Part of our game is based on keeping clean sheets and on Friday we would like to have made it a little bit more comfortable and taken one or two of our half chances, but we didn’t. We know when it’s only 1-0, the other team is always in the game, like we saw against Shels. So, we had to defend as a team and in the second half, we did that. We limited them to very little, which was really good.”

You brought Danny, Pico and Sean Kavanagh in. Pico was the man of the match; Danny provided the assist and how nice was it to see Sean do so well in his first start of the season?

“All three were very good. I’m delighted for Sean Kavanagh, he’s obviously had a tough time of it the last 18 months and he’s worked really hard. We know the quality he brings to the team so it was great to get him on the pitch.”

Does Andy Lyons have an injury?

“Andy picked up a knock last week. If it had been a must-win game or a Cup final, he would have played but we just didn’t want to take the chance with him. He’s been in really good form so the last thing we want is an injury where he’s out for five or six weeks. We didn’t risk it but he should be OK for tomorrow.”

Graham Burke will miss out. Any other injuries and suspensions?

“Graham is missing but should be OK for Friday, hopefully. As for everyone else, some of the usual knocks after games but nothing major.”

It was a 0-0 draw away to Dundalk recently. What sort of opposition are they under Stephen O’Donnell based on what we saw that day?

“They’ll be really well organised, we saw that at Oriel Park and they have attacking threats which we saw up there as well. They could have scored one or two, so we know they’re a threat and we have to respect that, be ready for that and then impose ourselves on them as soon as possible. We said before the long weekend that our aim was six points. We’ve started OK with Pat’s and it’s Dundalk tomorrow for a chance to pick up another three.”
