The death has occurred of Brian Murphy, true life-long fan and father of sports presenter and Hoops fan Con. Living at Frankfurt Avenue, Rathmines, Brian began following Shamrock Rovers at the age of 10. He saw all of the greats in the green and white, including Bob Fullam, Jimmy Dunne and Paddy Coad.

Although he moved to the United States for a while, Brian never lost his interest in the Hoops. He returned to Ireland in time to witness the great ‘Coad’s Colts’ team and was to become a ‘super fan’ directing much-needed sponsorship towards the Milltown club. Brian was the founder member of the Patron’s Club which brought in extra finance to the football club. 

Following the announcement that Rovers were to leave Milltown, Brian Murphy, along with Ed Kenny, Gerry Mackey, Jimmy Keane and others formed the Keep Rovers at Milltown group (KRAM) to oppose the sale of Glenmalure Park. He was never found wanting when it came to Shamrock Rovers and during his time he served on the board of directors during the RDS era.

In more recent years Brian was unable to attend games in person but kept up a very keen interest in the club by watching games on TV and the internet and by reading the news and match programmes every week.

To Con, Brian’s wife Patricia and all of the Murphy family we extend our deepest sympathy on their great loss.
